In 2005, Scott Sonnon walked into the Bellingham Fire Department proposing a challenge.  He was opening a new tactical fitness facility at the Bellingham Athletic Club, and he wanted to sponsor a competition between local Police and Fire Departments.  I had never heard of Scott and I was very skeptical to say the least.  We have a great relationship with the BPD, and a little friendly competition sounded like a lot of fun.

We arrived at the gym on the day of the competition and wondered what we had gotten ourselves into.  There was a bunch of equipment laid out that looked like it belonged in an ancient torture chamber, not a modern day gym.  Clubbells, Kettlebells, Medicine Balls, Parallette Bars, Plyo Boxes, and Pull Up Bars.  Not the typical bench press or squat rack that we all were used to.

The competition began and the athletes competing were doing all kinds of crazy movements.  The competition was grueling, but more than that it was a lot of fun!  The Bellingham Fire Department got the best of a very fit group of Police Officers on this day.  We all walked away with a great experience.  For some of us, it was life changing.  Check out the video:
